The NRA developed a large range of resources to assist retailers managing the ban on lightweight plastic shopping bags.

IMPORTANT: 2022 BAG BAN

As of 1 Jan 2022, the WA government is replacing the current bag ban with a state-wide ban on ALL plastic shopping bags, including plastic-laminated paper bags. Additional plastic items, such as straws, cutlery and foodware, will also be banned. Enforcement of the new legislation will commence 1 July 2022.

Note: "We're plastic bag free" signs may only be used by retailers that do not use any plastic bags, even compliant ones.

NRA campaign

The NRA, in partnership with the WA Government, launched a new campaign from 1 January 2019 to further assist retailers and shoppers through the final transition.

The campaign included:

  • Online video series for YouTube, Facebook & Instagram
  • Ads & banners
  • Factsheets, fliers & media releases
  • Street stencil campaign
  • Human billboards
  • Public engagements with campaign ambassador, Famous Sharron
  • Physical display materials for 100 shopping centres across WA
